Design Team for Creating Space VIII
Working Together: Exploring the Collective Nature of Leadership
Design Team Purpose Statement
To ourselves be a model of collective leadership as we work on behalf of the community of LLC to design a Creating Space experience that will maximize opportunities to contribute to and benefit from deeply engaged learning about collective leadership; and to create a safe and challenging space where participants can explore new leadership paradigms that may not serve our aspirations for social change.
Design Team Concept
Design Team Framework: LLC is founded on a profound belief in the self-organizing capacity of our community. Creating Space, our national meeting, provides an important opportunity to cultivate our shared commitment to collective reflection, engage in circle work that deepens our learning across a diversity of experiences, and openly share the results of learning. We believe that we can best accomplish these objectives by engaging the support of a design team representative of those in our community, and those we would like to welcome into the community.
Creating Space Objectives:
• Build community and commitment to sharing information and collaboration
• Introduce LLC to new practitioners focusing on underrepresented groups
• Share the lessons and products of learning circle work and showcase innovation
• Engage LLC members in continuing to help build the LLC website by completing organizational profiles, contributing resources, and using the functions of the site to support circle work
Design Team Contributions:
The work of the design team will likely require five – six conference calls prior to CS and availability for support roles at CS. An anchor facilitator(s) will be hired to manage the design coordination. Members of the community will be recruited to help with session proposal review input and outreach. The CS design team will be asked to:
• Recommend keynote catalysts to support our learning theme
• Invite ‘community contribution’ sessions proposals around the theme
• Develop and approve the design shell for Creating Space
• Assist with Creating Space implementation in facilitation or support role
• Develop and implement a process that engages Creating Space participants and the design team in learning about Creating Space.
Design Team Participant Outcomes:
• Learning about meeting process and design through collaboration, innovation and experimentation
• Learn about collaborative models through experience and reflection
• Cultivate relationships and have fun
