Current Facilitation Questions (March 9, 2007)

  • How do we hold the space for the entire gathering and for each day?
  • How are we explicit about the theme?
  • How do we resolve the issue of a “place-based” experience and approach with calling out particular leadership styles that breed collective leadership?
  • Coordination of “collective leadership” responsibilities re: facilitation? (starting every day with someone from community who is there…consistency concerns?)
  • Soliciting additional input for newcomers orientation, facilitation and opening ritual/closing reflection: setting theme, holding space, reminder about passport/navigation
  • Tapping people, beforehand and at CS VIII for reflections and facilitation pieces
  • How do we make this a collective design effort/create a larger sense of the community designing the experience?
  • Based on this, how do we design an opportunity for folks to contribute their ideas in response to registration—on-line contributions/wiki and reminders?
  • What supplies and materials do we need for opening activities—markers, construction paper, butcher paper, tape, scissors, etc.

Learning about collective process:

  • Taking responsibility for making it happen—how do we act collectively around facilitation and putting together an experience for others?
  • What is the ‘spectrum of collective leadership’ that we’ve talked about, and what are the different models that can help us see and share that?
  • Weaving the whole—the collective thrust of splitting into “Day” teams and then trying to re-connect, assuming that the ideas will fit and connect
