FIRST DESIGN TEAM CALL MEETING

Call Objectives:
➢ To deepen our collective understanding of our role, principles by which we aspire to work and our desired outcomes.
➢ To identify and begin to integrate lessons from previous Creating Space gatherings.
➢ To work with the framework and its implications for meeting form and content.
➢ To develop a realistic plan for our work: timeline, division of labor, appropriate organizational forms etc.
AGENDA
I. Team Check-In/Introductions (Warm-Up Activity)
II. Role of CS VIII Design Team
Discussion:
- Review description of responsibilities
- What would it look like for us to model collective leadership, eg.; what implications for how we do our work differently?
- What principles would support us in this effort?
- Do we need a face to face meeting soon?
Outcomes:
- Agree on principles of collective leadership for ourselves
- Decide on a face to face meeting
III. CS VIII Framework – Collective Leadership
Discussion: What are current sources on collective leadership and is there a unifying language which can hold all of these streams of work? Who jumps out as innovative collective leadership practitioners and thought leaders who could help participants think and work more deeply around this topic?
Outcomes:
- Develop language for our work
- Create our meeting theme
- Recommend conversation catalyst (s) and begin outreach to them
IV. Integrating past learning: What has worked that we can build on; where do we need to innovate?
- What were the most important lessons from the evaluation of CS VII that we need to intentionally incorporate this year?
- What do we need to take up in a different way to build the collective capacity of the community as we take up the issue of collective leadership?
Discussion: Facilitation Model – do we want a team approach, who? Who can we tap from this team and community to facilitate?
Outcomes:
- Adopt facilitation model for CS VIII
- Decide on specific facilitators and their roles
- Decide on compensation issues for facilitators
V. How can we best organize our work? (Outreach, Documentation etc.)
Are committees the best to engage and give voice to the broader community in developing Creating Space?
Discussion: What work needs to get done and what forms make the most sense for doing this work?
Outcome: Identify our organizing principles and appropriate forms
VI. Plan of work:
Discussion: Review proposed CS VIII Timeline and Budget, discuss best use of design team assets and allocation of work

- Summary of Action Items
- Next Steps
